CliniClue with Microsoft Windows Vista

We have tested CliniClue® under the new Microsoft Windows Vista® operating system. CliniClue is freeware without warrantee therefore we do not guarantee there will be no issues in Vista. However, we can report that we have successfully installed and used CliniClue 2006 on a new machine running Microsoft Windows Vista®. The following notes relate to our experience which may help other users installing under Vista.

Results of installation test on Vista

  1. We checked MSDN web site for information related to component compatibility and there were no reported problems with any of the components we use to develop CliniClue
  2. We installed CliniClue on a new Vista system using the current web downloadable version of CliniClue
    • CliniClue_setup_20070212.exe
    • We saw two error warnings during the install
      • Error during registration of:
        • oc30.dll
        • msxml4.dll
    • Based on information on the MSDN web site we ignored these errors and continued installation
      • If you see these errors please click the Ignore option on the error message (see footnote for explanation)
  3. After installation CliniClue ran and it worked as normal

  • If you have any other problems using CliniClue with Vista
    • Remember they may not be directly related to Vista compatibility - Please check our other FAQs
    • If these do not cover your issues please let us know using the contact form

Footnote

The reason for the install errors is that the relevant (or more up to date) files are already installed as part of the Vista OS and cannot be overwritten. Click the "Ignore" option on the error message to allow installation to continue. The relevant library is already installed and registered.

Telling people to "Ignore" error messages is not ideal and tends to increase the error report traffic. Therefore we will probably produce a variant of the setup that does not exhibit this error at some point. However, in the meantime it does appear to work and the results we get are in line with those expected based on the MS information on the components we use.
